To read the article published by the Royal Irish Academy on Caherconnell click here Burren Ireland Information - finding Caherconnell Stone FortFrom Limerick/Shannon: 1 hr driveFrom Limerick /Shannon take the Galway/Ennis Road to Ennis -About half an hours drive. At Ennis follow the bypass for Corofin / Lahinch. Drive for about 2 miles outside the town and take a right for Corofin, which is about 10 miles from this junction. Continue on through Corofin for about 5 miles until you come to Lemenagh Castle and take a right at the castle for the R480 road for Ballyvaughan. Continue on this road for about 4 miles Caherconnell Stone Fort & Visitor Centre, is on the left. From Galway: 1 hr driveTake the Limerick road from Galway. Continue from Galway and pass the following small towns Oranmore, Clarinbridge and the take a right at Kilcolgin for Kinvarra 7 miles approx. Drive through Kinvarra towards Ballyvaughan on the coast road, which is about 12 miles away. At Ballyvaughan take a left for the Lisdoonvarna road. About 1 mile outside Ballyvaughan on the Lisdoonvarna road take a left on the r480 road towards Corofin and the Ailwee Caves. Drive straight on this road for about 6 miles - you will pass Poulnabrone Dolmen on the left. After about ½ mile you reach Caherconnell Stone Fort & Visitor Centre it's on the right. |
